My Story
My family likes to claim that my career started when I was 10 and I hypnotized my first
subjects...our chickens. We had pet chickens in the middle of San Francisco, and that was
unusual, but hypnotizing them was truly amazing.
In fact, my career started years later, working as a childbirth educator and a doula assisting
at births. I used hypnosis and deep relaxation training for hundreds of childbearing women
for ten years. That is when the amazing power of the mind really made itself known to me.
Knowing how well it worked for easing the challenge of birth, I saw the potential for using
this tool to ease all of life's physical and emotional challenges, and opened a private practice
in 2004.
Since then, I have had the honor of studying with many of the most brilliant leaders in the
field, including Jerry Kein, Cal Banyan, Josie Hadley, Brian Weiss, and Marie Mongan. I am
continually furthering my education to keep up with the latest developments in hypnosis. I am
an active member of the National Guild of Hypnotists. I am also on their teaching faculty, and
am in the process of becoming Board Certified.
I have been an avid student of personal transformation for 25 years. I began practicing
meditation and yoga at the age of 18, and have many modalities that I draw upon in my work
with clients. I've chosen to focus on hypnotherapy because of the consistently profound
changes I've seen in my clients (see testimonials). I've seen amazing results with
hypnotherapy and that inspires me to want to learn more. One of my greatest joys is helping
others unfold their unlimited potential and live the life of joy and freedom they deserve. We
are all capable of rich, abundant lives if we know how to use our minds instead of having our
minds use us.
At UCSC, I received a BA in Social Change. There, I made a life-long commitment to be of
service to making the world a better and more peaceful place. This commitment has taken
many forms. I have brought personal empowerment programs to disadvantaged inner city
youth at risk across the country. I have spent 18 years as the Director of the country's most
comprehensive birth and parenting center, and founder of MamaDoula, offering postpartum
care throughout Vermont. As a single mom, my work has been grounded in the belief that
children are our future, and a peaceful world begins with how we bring our children into the
world.
I love the outdoors, organic gardening, and the amazing hiking, kayaking, boating, biking, and
cross-country skiing that living in beautiful Vermont affords. I am also on the Dragonheart
dragonboating team in support of breast cancer survivors. Childhood summers in France have
given me a love for travel and for the shift in perception it brings. I live with my two wonderful
children (19 and 11), a very sweet bunny, and 3 baby chicks. Contrary to popular myth, I
have never made a human cluck like a chicken, but I do look forward to hypnotizing my chicks
when they are bigger!
I owe my gratitude and ongoing inspiration to the boundless agape (unconditional love for
humanity) of my teacher, Amma. A percentage of my fees go towards supporting the world's
poor through the charities of Amma and Doctors Without Borders.
